Katsushika Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa is considered one of the world's most reproduced images and is the artist's most famous work. It is the initial print in Hokusai's 36 Views of Mount Fuji first published in 1832.
We selected the iconic image during the formulation of our logo because it embodies the concept of “Continuity in Change”—the contrast between the serene stability of the mountain and the extreme volatility of the waves. In the midst of the tumult and turbulence, the fishermen have battened down their boats and prepared for the onslaught of the waves. Throughout the storm, the sun still shines, reminding us that while impending and imposing, danger is transitory.
